Remote Senior Underwriter

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a seasoned and independent Remote Senior Underwriter to join their expanding team. This fully remote position offers the chance to leverage your extensive underwriting expertise to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions from anywhere in the country, though preference may be given to those in proximity to Paarl for occasional team meetups. You will be instrumental in assessing applications, determining appropriate policy terms and pricing, and contributing to the profitable growth of the business.

This role demands a high degree of autonomy, excellent judgment, and a commitment to upholding underwriting standards.

• Evaluate and underwrite complex insurance risks according to company guidelines and authority levels.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents to ensure a steady flow of quality business.
• Analyze financial statements, loss history, and other relevant data to assess risk exposure.
• Determine appropriate policy terms, conditions, and pricing for individual risks.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters and support staff remotely.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting strategies and policies.

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in underwriting, with a strong focus on commercial lines or specialized insurance products.
• Demonstrated ability to underwrite complex risks independently and accurately.
• Excellent understanding of insurance markets, products, and regulatory environments.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and negotiation skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Proficiency in underwriting support systems and standard office software.
