Remote Insurance Underwriter - Commercial Property

Our client, a rapidly growing national insurer, is actively seeking a skilled Remote Insurance Underwriter specializing in Commercial Property risks. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced underwriter to work from home, serving clients and assessing risks across South Africa, with a particular focus on business needs arising from the Mahikeng, North West region. You will be responsible for evaluating and accepting or rejecting insurance applications, setting appropriate terms and pricing, and managing a portfolio of commercial property risks.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong analytical aptitude, in-depth knowledge of commercial property insurance, and excellent decision-making capabilities. • Assess and underwrite commercial property insurance applications, analyzing risks and exposures.
• Determine appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing to ensure profitability.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents.
• Adhere to underwriting guidelines, company philosophy, and regulatory requirements.
• Manage a portfolio of commercial property accounts, ensuring adequate risk spread and profitability.
• Conduct thorough reviews of property schedules, surveys, and other relevant documentation.
• Provide technical guidance and support to brokers and clients on underwriting matters.
• Identify opportunities for cross-selling and up-selling related insurance products.
• Monitor industry trends and market conditions impacting commercial property insurance.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and strategies in a remote capacity.

• A Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in underwriting, with a specialization in commercial property insurance.
• Proven track record of sound underwriting decisions and profitable portfolio management.
• In-depth knowledge of commercial property insurance principles, policy wordings, and market practices.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fully remote environment.
• Proficiency in underwriting systems and standard office software.
• Understanding of risk engineering principles is an advantage.
• Must be based in South Africa with reliable internet connectivity.
