Job Overview

The Vietnamese Interpreter is responsible for handling on‑demand video and audio interpretation calls between Vietnamese and English speakers across a wide range of industries—including healthcare, government, insurance, financial, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court and emergency 911. The role requires quick, concise handling of information and cultural sensitivity, and is performed remotely from the interpreter’s home office.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Participate in online, video and audio training sessions.
  • Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a company‑provided device (e.g., laptop).
  • Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions at all times.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the sessions.
  • Remain calm when speakers are incoherent or upset, especially during emergency (911) calls.
  • Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
  • Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP), avoiding interaction with the LEP without the client’s permission.
  • Understand industry protocols and terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law (and related sectors).
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and to working in a diverse environment.
Qualifications
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and English, with skill in cultural dynamics.
  • Ability to assess regional and accent differences and communicate effectively with the LEP.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high accuracy.
  • Preferred education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation.
  • Ability to adapt to LLS technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Not currently employed by a client of Language Line Solutions or an affiliated business.
  • Ability to read and write in the requested languages (highly preferred).
Workspace Requirements

The interpreter must have a private, secure, distraction‑free environment with a quiet area, adequate lighting (e.g., LED ring light), reliable cable‑modem internet, and sufficient electrical outlets near the desk. A suitable desk or workspace that supports a laptop, monitor/keyboard, mouse, and lighting is required.
