Job Overview
The Vietnamese Interpreter is responsible for handling on‑demand video and audio interpretation calls between Vietnamese and English speakers across a wide range of industries—including healthcare, government, insurance, financial, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court and emergency 911. The role requires quick, concise handling of information and cultural sensitivity, and is performed remotely from the interpreter’s home office.
Responsibilities- Respond to video and audio interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly, professional manner.
- Participate in online, video and audio training sessions.
- Deliver interpretation services via video and expediently type data on a company‑provided device (e.g., laptop).
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions at all times.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the sessions.
- Remain calm when speakers are incoherent or upset, especially during emergency (911) calls.
- Maintain punctuality and availability during scheduled work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP), avoiding interaction with the LEP without the client’s permission.
- Understand industry protocols and terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and law (and related sectors).
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and to working in a diverse environment.
- Fluency in Vietnamese and English, with skill in cultural dynamics.
- Ability to assess regional and accent differences and communicate effectively with the LEP.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high accuracy.
- Preferred education or work experience in language‑related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation.
- Ability to adapt to LLS technology enhancements that improve service delivery.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Not currently employed by a client of Language Line Solutions or an affiliated business.
- Ability to read and write in the requested languages (highly preferred).
The interpreter must have a private, secure, distraction‑free environment with a quiet area, adequate lighting (e.g., LED ring light), reliable cable‑modem internet, and sufficient electrical outlets near the desk. A suitable desk or workspace that supports a laptop, monitor/keyboard, mouse, and lighting is required.
