Your Next Opportunity Are you ready to join Canada’s leading and progressive Business Law firm? Under the leadership of the Director, Marketing, Brand & Communications, the Manager, Translations is responsible for all translation needs across the firm, primarily from English to French. The role supports McMillan’s bilingual communication requirements by ensuring that translated marketing and business‑related materials are accurate, consistent, culturally aligned, and delivered on time.

The Manager, Translations will undertake internal translations, maintain linguistic resources, coordinate legal translation requests with external vendors, manage operational workflows, and serve as the firm’s primary point of contact for translation requests. The Manager, Translations will leverage and adopt various technology and AI-enabled solutions to efficiently and effectively support high volumes of internal translation requests. This position plays a critical part in supporting McMillan’s national presence, client service standards, and regulatory obligations in a bilingual legal environment.

Please note that this role offers a hybrid workweek. Each week will combine both working at home for a few days and working in the Toronto office for the balance. Your hybrid schedule will start once you join McMillan!

What You’ll Do

Manage and undertake the translation of a wide range of materials, including client communications, marketing content, internal communications, thought leadership, and firm policies.

Serve as the central point of contact for all translation requests across the firm, working closely with business professionals and lawyers to clarify scope, context, priorities, and deadlines.

Coordinate legal translation projects with external vendors, ensuring efficient workflows, quality control, confidentiality, and balanced allocation of work.

Execute, edit, and quality-check translated materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, tone, and cultural and legal appropriateness.

Develop, implement, and continuously refine internal processes for requesting, tracking, prioritizing, and delivering translation work.

Maintain and evolve translation memory tools, glossaries, style guides, and reference materials to support consistent firm‑wide terminology and brand voice.

Conduct terminology research, particularly in legal and regulatory subject areas, to ensure precise and contextually accurate translations.

Monitor translation volumes, turnaround times, and quality metrics, and prepare reporting or insights as required.

Collaborate with the Director, Marketing, Brand & Communications to identify translation needs and opportunities for process improvements.

Handle confidential, privileged, and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism, in accordance with firm policies and client expectations.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Translation or Linguistics, and excellent proficiency in French and English.

Proven experience as a professional translator.

Experience managing translation projects or workflows in a law firm or professional services environment is an asset.

Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline‑driven environment.

Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality, accurate work.

Experience with AI translation platforms, translation management systems, translation memory tools, and related technologies, with a strong desire to leverage these technologies in your day‑to‑day work.

Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership, lawyers, stakeholders at all levels, and external vendors.

Ability to operate confidently in a fast‑paced professional services setting.

Proficiency in generative AI technology, Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, and other related software.
