As a freelance interpreter with MCIS Language Solutions, you will provide essential spoken interpretation services in various community settings such as hospitals, police stations, tribunal hearings, schools, and more. Your primary role is to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English and Korean speakers, ensuring individuals with limited language proficiency have access to vital services.
Key Responsibilities- Interpretation:
Provide accurate, clear, and professional interpretation between English and Korean in community settings, including high-pressure environments such as healthcare and legal situations. - Cultural Sensitivity:
Demonstrate cultural awareness when working with diverse communities, ensuring that meaning and tone are faithfully conveyed while respecting cultural nuances. - Reading and Oral Translation:
Translate written materials (e.g., application forms, medical records, legal documents) orally, conveying information with precision and clarity. - Facilitating Access to Services:
Support vulnerable populations by breaking down linguistic barriers in critical interactions, enabling individuals to navigate complex systems such as healthcare, law enforcement, and social services. - Travel:
Travel to assignment locations as required, using personal or public transportation. Flexibility is required as assignments may vary in location and time. - Remote Assignments:
Handle over-the-phone or video interpretation assignments, offering flexibility and the ability to work from home when applicable. - Professionalism and Confidentiality:
Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality while interpreting sensitive information, particularly in healthcare, legal, or other confidential contexts.
- Fluency in English and Korean (both written and spoken) is required.
- Reading Proficiency:
Strong ability to read and interpret written documents accurately, converting them into clear oral translations. - Soft Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy, patience, and a commitment to service. Ability to build rapport with individuals from various cultural backgrounds and provide supportive, non-judgmental service. - Transportation:
Ability to travel to different locations as needed; a reliable form of transportation, whether personal or public, is necessary. - Legal Eligibility:
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Training:
New interpreters receive a free online training module designed to prepare you for assignments, which must be completed before starting any work. - Experienced Interpreters:
Applications from experienced interpreters who have been tested and certified in community interpreting are highly valued.
Part‑time, Casual, Freelance
Salary$20.00 to $25.00 per hour (based on experience and assignment type)
