The Role Open Train is seeking a French Audio Transcriptionist to create highly accurate transcripts of spoken Quebecois French for AI training. You will work with natural, multi-speaker conversations that may include crosstalk, overlapping speech, filled pauses, accents, background noise, and other challenging real-world audio conditions.
This contractor, part-time opportunity is open to candidates in Canada. The role is listed at $10-$35 USD per hour and requires a commitment of 20 or more hours per week. Work is completed independently and asynchronously on a flexible schedule.

What You'll Do You will listen closely to French-language recordings and produce detailed transcripts that preserve the important features of conversational speech. Accuracy and consistency are essential, especially when recordings are noisy, unclear, or contain several people speaking nscribe spoken Quebecois French audio accurately and in detail
Identify and distinguish multiple speakers throughout each recording
Capture filled pauses, spoken disfluencies, and non-verbal sounds
Mark inaudible segments according to established conventions
Apply detailed style and formatting guidelines consistently
Handle background noise, accents, low-quality audio, crosstalk, and overlapping speech
Maintain accuracy across substantial volumes of audio
Complete assignments independently and asynchronously
Required Skills Success in this role depends on exceptional listening ability, careful written French, and a methodical approach to detailed transcription. You should be comfortable making precise judgments while following transcription conventions and maintaining reliable accuracy in difficult audio.
Native or near-native French fluency
Strong Quebecois vocabulary and knowledge of regional speech patterns
Excellent written French spelling and grammar
Ability to transcribe conversations with multiple speakers and overlapping speech
Good judgment when identifying pauses, disfluencies, non-verbal sounds, and inaudible segments
Strong attention to detail and consistency
Ability to work accurately with background noise and low-quality recordings
Reliable independent working habits
Helpful Background Prior experience is not required for this entry-level role, but relevant background can help you contribute effectively.
Experience with spoken-language work, detailed transcription, or annotation is especially useful.
Transcription, court reporting, stenography, captioning, or subtitling
Video annotation or data-labeling tools
Linguistics, phonetics, or language documentation
Translation, localization, or French-Canadian editorial work
Familiarity with Joual and Quebecois varieties beyond Montreal
