Position: Spanish (Spain) to English Pharmacovigilance Linguist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Spanish (Spain) to English Pharmacovigilance Linguist based in Switzerland.

This freelance opportunity is ideal for an experienced linguist specializing in pharmacovigilance and clinical-regulatory content. You will translate and review high-volume, time-sensitive safety documentation from Spanish into English. The role combines translation, machine translation post-editing, and quality-focused copy editing within a regulated life sciences environment. You’ll work on content where accuracy, consistency, and terminology are critical to patient safety and regulatory compliance.

The engagement offers ongoing work with daily volumes and strict turnaround requirements. Success requires strong linguistic expertise, medical-domain knowledge, reliability, and the ability to work consistently under demanding deadlines.

Accountabilities
  • Translate pharmacovigilance and clinical-regulatory content from Spanish (Spain) into English (GB or US), maintaining accuracy, terminology, tone, and regulatory suitability.

  • Perform machine translation post-editing (MTPE) on safety and medical content, correcting linguistic and substantive issues.

  • Conduct copy-editing reviews to ensure translated and post-edited content is accurate, clear, consistent, and fit for purpose.

  • Work on safety and regulatory documentation such as adverse event reports, clinical documentation, and other pharmacovigilance materials.

  • Handle sensitive, high-volume assignments while consistently meeting strict, non-extendable turnaround times.

  • Maintain consistent availability to support daily production volumes and respond reliably to ongoing project requirements.

  • Use XTM or similar CAT tools effectively, leveraging provided technology and workflows to deliver high-quality work.

  • Apply appropriate medical and pharmacovigilance terminology while maintaining consistency across documents and assignments.

Requirements
  • Degree in translation, linguistics, language studies, or an equivalent qualification that includes substantial translation training.

  • At least 2 years of professional experience translating medical documentation, with demonstrated knowledge of pharmacovigilance and/or clinical-regulatory content.

  • Experience translating pharmacovigilance materials such as SAE/AE reports, PSURs, SUSARs, ICESRs, DSURs, and Risk Management Plans is strongly preferred.

  • Alternatively, experience with regulatory or clinical documents such as medical reports, protocols, synopses, informed consent forms, discharge reports, study reports, SmPCs, PILs, or medical literature.

  • Strong Spanish proficiency and excellent English skills; native-level English is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Hands-on experience with XTM or comparable computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.

  • Strong attention to detail, linguistic accuracy, terminology management, and consistency.

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage high volumes, and meet demanding deadlines without extensions.

  • Reliable, flexible, and comfortable committing to consistent daily availability.

  • A healthcare professional background, particularly as a nurse or physician, is a plus; emergency-room experience is especially valuable.

  • Willingness to provide daily and/or weekend availability is an advantage.

Benefits
  • Ongoing freelance engagement with consistent daily work volumes.

  • Remote working arrangement with the flexibility associated with a freelance position.

  • Opportunity to work on international pharmacovigilance and clinical-regulatory programs.

  • Exposure to high-impact medical and safety content within the global life sciences sector.

  • Access to XTM through a client-provided license.

  • Onboarding and connector setup support for the required translation technology.

  • Opportunity to apply and further develop specialized medical translation and pharmacovigilance expertise.
