Disability Law Colorado (DLC) is a statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to securing the rights of more than one million Coloradans with disabilities. Responsibilities
  • Provide self‑advocacy assistance and referrals to clients via Disability Law Colorado’s intake system.
  • Develop and maintain self‑advocacy resources (toolkits, videos, guides, referral lists, etc.).
  • Support and train non‑attorney intake specialists.
  • Review and triage case files and complaints.
  • Engage in outreach, workshops, and disability rights education.
  • Track legal trends and recommend advocacy strategies based on intake data.
  • Participate in litigation, investigations, or policy work as needed.
Intake Attorney Specific Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the intake team: Provide ongoing training and support to intake staff, improving their ability to address advocacy needs, such as drafting reasonable accommodation letters and supporting self‑advocacy efforts.
  • Triage requests for help and assign them to intake staff for follow‑up.
  • Directly enhance intake efficiency by offering expert guidance on complex cases, ensuring timely and effective responses to service requests.
  • Promote high‑quality services across all client interactions, fostering consistent support and advocacy statewide.
  • Serve as the primary legal resource for complex intake cases, ensuring quality and consistency in advocacy services.
  • Enhance client services: Evaluate clients’ ability to navigate complex administrative processes. Provide direct advocacy and legal services to individuals facing barriers in accessing services, including government services, health care, and employment.
  • Strengthen resources and accessibility: Update and develop self‑advocacy tools and materials to reflect current policies and best practices, such as step‑by‑step guides, templates for reasonable accommodation requests, fact sheets explaining legal rights, and checklists for navigating systems.
  • Promote systemic improvements: Identify systemic barriers and advocate for policy changes that improve accessibility and protections for Coloradans with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with staff to manage and analyze data: Analyze data from the case management database and other sources to identify trends and systemic barriers and to recommend advocacy strategies based on intake data.
Required Qualifications
  • J.D. and admission to Colorado Bar (or ability to be admitted within 6 months of starting work).
  • 6+ months of legal experience and experience with marginalized populations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, editing, and research skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff and external partners.
  • Passion for disability justice, equity, and self‑advocacy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred.
Work Environment

Applicants for this position must live in Colorado or be willing to relocate to Colorado before beginning employment. We allow employees to work from home or from our Denver office, with the understanding that they will meet in person as needed to conduct their job functions and collaborate with colleagues, clients, and partners. We provide equipment to employees to work successfully in a remote environment, including but not limited to laptops and phones.

The Intake Attorney is a member of the Mission Support team and collaborates across the agency to advance the mission of Disability Law Colorado. The intake attorney has no supervisory responsibilities. This position reports to the Director of Mission Support.

Compensation and Benefits

This is an exempt, full‑time position. The hiring range is $79,000–$90,000/year depending on experience. Employee benefits include a 403(b) retirement savings plan and medical, dental, vision, life, and short‑ and long‑term disability insurance.
