The opportunityWe currently have an opportunity for a Senior Coverage Litigation Attorney to join our Claims team in our Plymouth, MN office on a hybrid schedule or located remotely nationwide. The Senior Coverage Litigation Attorney independently provides legal representation to the company in coverage disputes before courts, arbitration panels, or other bodies. Advises Claim employees in their handling of coverage decisions and disputes.
Responsible for completion of caseload and trial work of moderate complexity, whether by settlement, trial or appeal. Manages assigned staff and/or coaches and mentors junior members of the team. Some of the Senior Coverage Litigation Attorney responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Handles a workload of coverage files representing the company. Responsible for maintenance and completion of caseload and trial work of high complexity, whether by settlement, trial or appeal.
- Reviews assigned insurance coverage matters to determine contractual obligations.
- Conducts all appropriate legal action to best protect the interests of the company on all assigned cases. Prepares appeals and performs necessary research on motions.
- Broad authority to negotiate settlements with plaintiffs’ attorneys.
- Coaches and mentors junior members of the team.
- Interfaces and provides counsel to other claims staff as cases develop through trial or resolution.
- Reviews and reports all large cases to managing attorney, prepares timely reports as required and schedules/attends conferences with other Claims staff to review pending litigation.
- Actively provides strategic and tactical input to management on budgetary and office operations.
- Maintains a strong professional knowledge of legal environments and applies this information effectively.
- 10-15 years of experience litigating coverage disputes.
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience, preferred.
- Substantial experience with research, discovery depositions, mediations and trial preparation required.
- Trial experience in State and Federal Court required
- JD required.
- Admitted to practice law in at least one state and eligible for pro hac vice admission in other jurisdictions.
Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $146,000 - $194,000 based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA;
Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $171,000 – $200,000
