Associate/Senior Attorney - Shankar Legal Inc. (Remote)

We are seeking a dynamic full-time Workplace and Campus Investigations Attorney. This is a full-time, fully remote exempt position. A successful candidate must have at least three years of experience practicing law in California. While experience in employment or labor law (for at least two of those three years) is preferred, it is not required. Attorneys with experience in education law highly desired.

Shankar Legal, Inc. is interested in candidates who demonstrate the interpersonal and analytical skills necessary to conduct effective investigations. Strong writing and analytical skills are essential to this position. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions (i.e., fundamental job duties of the position), subject to shareholder supervision, are as follows:

  • Conduct investigations from intake to completion
  • Exercise judgment to gather relevant evidence, including through witness interviews and documentary evidence
  • Evaluate the reliability of evidence gathered during the investigation using credibility factors, legal experience and critical thinking skills
  • Draft detailed investigative reports, documents, and correspondence
  • Engage in regular client communications regarding scope, status, and findings related to an investigation
  • Receive ongoing training and mentorship
  • Occasional travel required and, Perform other duties as appropriate to the skill, experience and education level of the candidate, and the needs of the Firm, including completing administrative duties to meet Firm objectives.
Education and Experience
  • Three years of experience practicing law in CA, required
  • Previous experience with neutral investigations, desired
  • Previous experience with educational institutions, desired

    Exposure to the special education field, desired
  • Strong listening and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to develop rapport with witnesses
  • Strong client communication skills, including experience working with clients in high consequence legal disputes
  • Demonstrated curiosity and openness to learning new skills and the ability to accept and implement feedback
  • Ability to assess facts with impartiality and mitigate personal biases
  • Strong time management skills and demonstrated ability to work independently to complete tasks under tight deadlines
  • Ability to maximize time and effort in addressing position responsibilities, as well as quick adaptation to changes in priorities
  • Positive, professional and approachable attitude and demeanor and the ability to collaborate with others
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English required. Spanish language skills (written and verbal) are strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of legal language, principles, and research methods (including experience using online research platforms).
  • Must have excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Must be experienced with Adobe Acrobat Pro, Zoom, and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point (firm uses cloud-based platforms such as Office 365)
  • Must have California drivers’ license
  • Must have a can-do attitude, be flexible and be comfortable working in a fast-paced,collaborative,and entrepreneurial business culture.

The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $175,000 and represents the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on several factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
