Job Description SummaryWe are looking for a senior trial attorney to deliver top‑quality legal services to support the mission of a Fortune 100 insurer. Key Responsibilities- Demonstrate the requisite trial advocacy skills independently as lead counsel or as part of a team, ensuring efficient, proactive case management and high‑quality work.
- Operate with minimal managerial oversight, handling all core duties in accordance with Nationwide Trial Division standards.
- Utilize technology effectively and collaborate with support staff for efficient case management.
- Maintain awareness of changes to law, technology, local rules, and industry developments that could affect litigation strategy.
- Perform subject‑matter expertise required for all NTD concentrations and adapt to new concentrations as business needs change.
- Provide factually and legally sound opinions on case valuations, promptly updating and communicating to clients and claims.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with associates, claims partners, and industry colleagues.
- Leverage relationships to enhance NTD’s reputation and expand case referral opportunities.
- Communicate effectively, meeting client, claim, and internal expectations both written and verbal.
- Serve as a mentor for junior attorneys and staff, providing guidance, training, and modeling best practices.
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
License / Certification / DesignationMaintains an active license in the state in which the position is located.
ExperienceTypically, more than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
Knowledge, Abilities and SkillsSignificant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation; ability to manage complex legal practices across multiple courts and agencies; excellent written and verbal communication; collaboration and mentoring; negotiation; analytical problem solving; computer savvy; adaptability to changes in law and technology; strong time management and organization.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to Managing Trial Attorney.
Job ConditionsOvertime Eligibility:
Not Eligible (Exempt). Working conditions include a normal office environment, possible work from home, frequent travel, occasional overnight travel, and extended hours.
