Associate Counsel - Texas, REMOTE
GEICO is looking to hire an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first‑party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in Austin, San Antonio and the Houston area.
Base Pay Range$/yr - $/yr
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, discovery, depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defend by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable.
- 2–6+ years of related field litigation experience in insurance, defense, and/or personal injury.
- Juris Doctor degree (required).
- Admission to the Texas Bar (required).
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet ongoing licensing and CLE requirements.
- Must be able to travel as required, including to trials, hearings, depositions, and conferences.
- Must document files in a clear, concise, professional written manner suitable for internal and external audiences.
- Must be able to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts, and demonstrate strong organization, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
- Must be able to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information.
- Civil litigation experience.
- Insurance defense‑related litigation experience.
- Proficient professional communication in person, telephone, and email.
Remote work with commutable distance to office.
Annual Salary$ - $. The range is a general guideline; the final offer will consider scope, experience, education, and market factors.
