Overview
New Jersey Judiciary is searching for a candidate to join the Paralegal/Intake Unit in the Appellate Division. The selected individual must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and case management skills in order to perform the duties required of this position. The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of computers and systems in order to manage data files for uploading into the Appellate Division's case processing system (ACME).
The selected individual will be responsible for initial case review, analyzing and determining deficiencies, reviewing for finality issues that may exist; monitoring and processing both electronically filed, and paper appeals that are converted to electronic appeals in accordance with court rules and established practices.
Schedule A: $59,661.54 – $96,767.80 Schedule B: $59,661.54 – $91,929.42. Starting salary for newly hired individuals will normally be at the minimum of the range.
Responsibilities- Setting priorities and organizing work to ensure efficiency
- Processing motions
- Reviewing and approving electronic document files
- Communicating with self‑represented litigants, judges, attorneys and other interested parties regarding appellate procedures and status of appeals
- Perform other related duties as required
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and two years of professional experience in case management involving gathering and analyzing case‑related information. Additional experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis (one year equal to 30 semester hour credits). An associate degree and two years of additional experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree. A master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.
Microsoft Word and Excel experience would be helpful.
The position may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
Authorization & ResidencyUS citizenship is not required. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US. Newly hired employees must be residents of New Jersey within one year of hire. New employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting.
