Associate Compensation & Benefits Tax Counsel
Johnson & Johnson is seeking an experienced Associate Compensation & Benefits Tax Counsel in New Brunswick, New Jersey. This role reports to the VP Compensation & Benefits Tax Counsel and provides high‑level technical tax and legal advice on employee compensation and benefit plans worldwide.
Responsibilities• Ensure compliance with laws and regulations applicable to employee compensation and benefits.
• Advise management on tax and legal requirements in areas including qualified retirement plans, stock‑based compensation, employee welfare benefit plans, employee fringe benefits, mergers, acquisitions & divestitures, plan asset investments, and executive compensation matters.
• Provide guidance on payroll withholding and reporting matters and other global employee compensation and benefits matters.
Remote work options may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis and if approved by the company.
Position Requirements- A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required.
- A minimum of one active state (or District of Columbia) bar admission is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience advising clients or management on employee compensation & benefits tax and legal matters.
- Working knowledge of the provisions of the Internal Revenue Code applicable to employee compensation and benefits and of the Employee Retirement and Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) is required.
- Experience advising on compensation and benefits matters in mergers, acquisitions and divestiture transactions is required.
- Experience advising on plan asset investment matters is required.
- Excellent business partnering and communication skills – the ability to explain highly technical matters to non‑technical management.
- Exposure to and general knowledge of the laws of major non‑U.S. jurisdictions regarding employee compensation and benefit matters, reporting and withholding, and employee location compliance.
The position is eligible for: salary range $173,000 to $300,000, annual performance bonus, company‑sponsored medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, legal insurance, consolidated retirement plan (401(k)) and long‑term incentive program.
Time‑off benefits: vacation (120 hours per calendar year), sick time (40 hours per calendar year; 48 in Colorado; 56 in Washington), holiday pay (13 days per calendar year), work/family time (up to 40 hours), parental leave (480 hours), bereavement leave (240 hours), caregiver leave (80 hours per 52‑week rolling period), volunteer leave (32 hours), military spouse time‑off (80 hours).
CompensationThe anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $300,000.
