Associate Staff Attorney – Liberty Mutual Insurance
Pay Range: $100,000 – $171,000 per year
Our Workers’ Compensation law firm is looking for an Associate Staff Attorney, preferably with workers’ compensation experience, to join our California-based (primarily remote) team. The role involves managing a busy, in-demand caseload from initial pleadings to trial, and includes a broad spectrum of responsibilities that impact policyholders and the firm.
Responsibilities- Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals.
- Provide legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
- Utilize e‑discovery and case‑management technologies to streamline processes.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with senior counsel.
- Ensure all pleadings and legal documents are accurate and compliant with applicable standards.
- Maintain timely and clear communication with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in initiatives to improve efficiency within Staff Legal and the broader legal organization.
- Uphold the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance.
- California State Bar membership.
- Preferred licenses to practice before federal courts or other boards.
- Minimum one year’s experience as an attorney; strong workers’ compensation experience preferred.
- Strong relationship‑building skills.
- Detail‑oriented, analytical thinking.
- Process‑oriented mindset with proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Up‑to‑date practices in workers’ compensation law and related fields.
- Familiarity with insurance law a plus.
- Proficiency in technologies that reduce costs and facilitate remote work.
- JD degree.
