Salary and BenefitsGrade 42: starting salary $69,392.12.
Step increase after six months: $71,131.52.
Step increase after one year: $76,495.20.

Job TitleResearch Attorney I (remote work possible).
Job DutiesThe Research Attorney I must perform all duties in a timely, accurate, respectful, and organized manner while exercising the utmost confidentiality.
Responsibilities include:
- Reading, racconting, analyzing, and summarizing legal briefs, motions, and other records submitted on appeal, including trial transcripts and exhibits.
- Conducting thorough and accurate legal research on a broad range of civil and criminal legal issues and applying relevant facts to that research.
- Producing quality written memoranda, drafting and editing documents and opinions, performing complete legal citations and verifications.
- Assisting in courtroom proceedings and performing other related Karen duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must work independently to produce high‑quality work with little supervision and collaborate respectfully with court personnel and the community.
Employment Dates1–2 year term – approximately August 1, 2026 through August 1, 2027 or 2028.
RequiredEducation and Experience
All candidates must graduate from an ABA‑accredited law school by June 2026, be eligible to practice law in Kansas, and meet the Kansas bar requirements.
Preference may be given to candidates ranked in the top one‑third of their graduating class, who participated in a law‑school journal, and who are already licensed in Kansas or have a transferable UBE result per Supreme Court Rule 709A.
Bar Eligibility for Applicants Not Yet LicensedApplicants must complete:
OTS UBE score to Kansas.
Preference for applications received by February 1, 2026, but position remains open until filled.
