- Official Court Reporter 1 (Realtime Apprentice) – Schedule A: $70,274.38 to $96,192.20;
Schedule B: $70,274.38 to $86,113.65. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary is normally at the minimum of the range. For current employees, promotion increases base salary by 5% (not exceeding the maximum of the range) or to the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Employees hired before 8 October 2014 are considered Schedule A; those hired on or after that date are Schedule

The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule and this position may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, candidates must install a multifactor authentication app on a phone or tablet and have high‑speed home internet access. Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.
ResponsibilitiesProvide verbatim records of judicial proceedings and other meetings or hearings, including CART for Supreme Court webcasting using a stenographic reporting system or a stenographic real‑time reporting system under the direction of the Supervisor of Court Reporters. The Official Court Reporter will:
- Transcribe notes verbatim when transcripts of proceedings are ordered; upload stenographic notes in a readable PDF and a translated format to a Judiciary network storage server.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Operate necessary equipment (Case Catalyst or Eclipse software for Supreme Court webcasting). The Official Court Reporter shall provide the basic equipment necessary to perform job duties.
- Travel statewide on occasion as required.
- License/Certification (both positions)
- Must possess a valid Certified Realtime Court Reporter Certificate issued by the New Jersey State Board of Court Reporting;
- Must possess a valid National Certified Realtime Reporter Certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association;
- For assistant positions, a New Jersey Judiciary Realtime Certificate or equivalent out‑of‑state Board of Court Reporting review and approval.
- Apprentice Period (position
1)- Must obtain a valid Certified Realtime Court Reporter Certificate (New Jersey), National Certified Realtime Reporter Certificate (NCRA), or New Jersey Judiciary Realtime Certificate within one year from the start date of employment to maintain employment.
- Physical Ability – Ability to climb, stand, stretch, bend, reach frequently, lift and carry supplies weighing 30–50 lb and occasionally up to 75 lb.
- Driver’s License – Required if operation of a vehicle is necessary for essential duties.
- Authorization to Work – Must be authorized to work in the U.S. per DHS and USCIS regulations; U.S. citizenship is not required.
