We are seeking an attorney to join our California Workers' Compensation team! Our attorneys work from home and handle in-person trials as required. This position will handle files primarily venued in Northern California - we are open to candidates statewide who are comfortable with occasional travel to Northern California. This position is responsible for representing clients in workers' compensation defense practice, handling cases that are primarily low in complexity and exposure. Manages all phases of cases from intake to resolution.

• Litigates low complexity and exposure cases and performs duties necessary from intake to trial and/or settlement. This includes but is not limited to preparation of pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs.
• Attends hearings, conferences, interviews, mediations, arbitrations, and/or trials.
• Proactively informs leadership of case handling opportunities and challenges encountered.
• Consults with the Claims Department on the legal aspects of files.
• Performs other tasks or duties to ensure efficient case management.
• May handle second chair trials and handle trials in cases with minimal complexity and/or exposure.
• May provide support to senior attorneys in cases of greater complexity and/or exposure and may receive developmental assignments of matters that are of moderate complexity and/or exposure.

Job is performed in-person at a Farmers office or virtually at an approved alternative work location. Job may include work performed at field locations. The physical work environment is indoors and climate-controlled with adequate lighting and ventilation. Field work performed outdoors may include exposure to weather elements. Travel between Farmers offices, alternative work locations, and/or field locations may be required. Duties may include sitting or standing for extended periods and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.

Requires normal visual and auditory capabilities for safe and effective performance.

Typically in a climate-controlled office environment, with some exposure to outside conditions and travel via automobile and/or commercial transportation.

Bachelor's degree preferred. Licensed to practice Law in applicable states required upon hire.

Civil litigation and/or personal/bodily injury experience preferred.

Public speaking, ability to function in adversarial or confrontational situations, driving.
