The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

Key Responsibilities

Brighton and Hove Division are seeking applicants for the role of PIP 2 Investigator working within Brighton CID.

The role is varied, challenging and sometimes tough but ultimately rewarding. You will work as part of a team investigating serious and complex crime. As a PIP 2 investigator, you will carry a workload of ongoing investigations and key responsibilities include:

  • Suspect interviews both in and out of custody
  • Witness interviews and statements
  • Evidence gathering
  • Preparation of evidential files for court to include liaison with the Crown Prosecution Service
  • Giving evidence at court
  • Victim care and management
  • Liaison with partner agencies

CID work a 9-week shift pattern consisting of early shifts (0700 - 1600) and late shifts (1400 - 2200) however the successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the night shift rota which involves working three night shifts in a row a handful of times per year.

Skills & Experience

Applicants for this role must hold a PIP Level 2 accreditation or join the role as a PIP1 and be prepared to pass the NIE exam and portfolio within 18 months of appointment.

We are looking for applicants with proven and well evidenced experience in criminal investigation. Priority will be given to those who have recent and relevant investigative experience at PIP2 level however applications are also invited from experienced PIP 1 qualified investigators who hold the National Investigators Exam (NIE).

Brighton CID is a busy office with high workloads and so it is imperative that applicants are able to effectively prioritise their own workload, work under pressure and take a methodical approach to meet competing deadlines.

Your application should include an overview of your investigative experience and you must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of criminal law and procedure.

You should possess strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, colleagues, partner agencies, victims, witnesses and suspects.

You will also be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Race Action Plan and anti-racist statement as put forth by Sussex Police
