Legal Counsel - Litigation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a proactive and skilled Legal Counsel specializing in Litigation to join their fully remote legal team. This position is integral to managing and resolving disputes, claims, and litigation matters efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for developing litigation strategies, conducting legal research, preparing pleadings, and representing the company's interests in various legal proceedings. This role is ideal for a seasoned litigator who excels in a virtual environment, can manage a demanding caseload independently, and is committed to achieving favorable outcomes while minimizing legal and financial risks for the organization.

You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to achieve strategic objectives.

• Manage all aspects of the litigation lifecycle, from pre-litigation investigation through to trial and appeal.
• Develop and execute effective litigation strategies tailored to specific case requirements.
• Conduct thorough legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and other court documents.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court appearances as required.
• Manage external litigation counsel, providing clear direction and overseeing case progress.
• Advise business units on potential legal risks and strategies to mitigate disputes.

• Admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 6 years of litigation experience.
• Strong track record in handling complex commercial litigation and dispute resolution.
• In-depth knowledge of civil procedure and courtroom advocacy.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and negotiation skills .
• Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload with minimal supervision in a remote setting.
