In-House Counsel - Real Estate

About the Role

Our client, a prominent property development firm, is seeking a dedicated In-House Counsel specializing in Real Estate to join their dynamic team in Durban . This role requires a legal professional with extensive experience in property law, lease agreements, and property development transactions. You will be instrumental in providing strategic legal guidance, managing transactional documentation, and ensuring compliance with all real estate-specific legislation.

The successful candidate will work closely with the development, finance, and operations teams, playing a critical role in the successful execution of major projects across the region and contributing to the firm's continued success in the Durban market.

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of property-related agreements, including sale agreements, leases, and development contracts.
• Provide legal advice on property acquisitions, disposals, zoning, and land use matters.
• Conduct legal due diligence for property transactions, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant property laws, regulations, and environmental standards.
• Manage disputes related to property ownership, leases, and development projects.
• Liaise with external legal advisors and regulatory authorities on property matters.

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a minimum of 6 years of experience, with a significant focus on real estate law .
• Proven expertise in commercial property transactions, conveyancing, and lease structuring.
• Strong understanding of South African property legislation and development processes.
• Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to draft complex legal documents clearly and concisely.
• Ability to work independently and proactively manage a demanding workload in a remote or hybrid setting.
