Counsel Attorney Family Law and Probate

Johnson Legal PLLC is a Kentucky law firm based in Elizabethtown. The principal, Durward Elton Johnson, is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Arizona and is accredited by the VA Office of General Counsel. We handle family law, probate and estate administration, wills and trusts, and VA survivor benefits for clients across the state, with flat fees quoted in writing before work begins.

The firm is adding of counsel attorneys on a contract basis to handle matters in their own regions, beginning with Louisville and Lexington. The first matters are expected in November 2026.

• Initial consultations with prospective clients in your region, run from the firm's call sheets, with fee quotes issued by the firm in writing after the call.
• Court appearances in your region on matters the firm has opened, including hearings in rural counties.
• Agreed family law matters and estate administrations handled from engagement to closing.
• Written client reviews and options letters when the firm's queue requires.
• Participation in the firm's document review process before any paper is sent or filed.

The firm retains client intake, fee quotes, engagement letters, trust accounting, and the primary client relationship. Each matter is delivered to you as a complete file: the facts gathered, the research pulled from primary sources, the working drafts, the exhibits, and the deadlines. The firm produces drafting and research through an AI-assisted system under the principal's supervision, and reviews every document against the file before it goes out.

The firm's coordinator schedules appointments.

Compensation is a share of each matter's flat fee, paid when the client's fee is received, under a written agreement of counsel with a per-matter schedule. Based on the firm's current advertising and conversion, a seat at full volume is projected to carry eight to ten matters a month, which, at the per-matter share, is roughly $6,000 to $9,000 a month, including court appearances, which are paid separately per hearing.

Consultations in your region are yours to take, and the matters they produce are yours to carry. Volume starts smaller and builds over the first quarter as advertising in your region scales. Because each matter arrives researched and drafted, the lawyer's time per matter is a fraction of a conventional file; we expect the effective rate to be well above standard contract-attorney rates, and we will show you the hours on the first three matters.

The position is 1099, and clients consent in writing to the fee division on each shared matter as SCR 3.130(1.5)(e) requires.

This is a remote position with in-person court appearances as matters require. We expect two to three counsel positions across Kentucky over the next few months, and a seat may evolve into a part-time or full-time associate role as volume warrants.
