Build Your Practice in a Collaborative, Flexible Environment
Our client, an established law firm in Baraboo, is seeking an attorney to take ownership of family law and civil litigation matters within a supportive, down-to-earth team.
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney who enjoys working directly with clients, developing case strategy, and handling matters from initial consultation through resolution. Litigation experience is strongly preferred, along with the judgment to recognize when negotiation offers the best path forward and when strong courtroom advocacy is necessary.
The firm offers a collaborative environment with an open-door policy, a casual office atmosphere, and flexibility in how and where you work. Attorneys are trusted to manage their responsibilities while remaining responsive to clients, prepared for court, and accountable for their cases.
What You'll Do- Manage a caseload of family law and civil litigation matters, taking responsibility for case progress, deadlines, and client communication.
- Represent clients in divorce, custody and placement, child support, spousal maintenance, paternity, and post-judgment matters.
- Handle civil disputes based on experience and firm needs, potentially including contract, landlord-tenant, property, and collection matters.
- Conduct consultations, evaluate facts and legal issues, and develop practical strategies tailored to each client’s circumstances.
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and other legal documents.
- Prepare for and represent clients at hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Conduct legal research and assess the strengths, risks, and potential outcomes of each matter.
- Help clients understand their options, anticipated costs, and next steps through clear, timely communication.
- Work collaboratively with other attorneys and support staff to keep matters organized and moving forward.
- Maintain accurate case records and timely billing documentation.
- Juris Doctor degree and an active Wisconsin law license in good standing.
- Prior litigation experience, including preparation for and participation in court proceedings, strongly preferred.
- Family law experience preferred; attorneys with transferable civil litigation experience are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to manage cases independently while seeking input and collaborating when appropriate.
- Strong legal writing, research, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Sound judgment and a practical approach to resolving disputes.
- A compassionate, professional manner when working with clients facing sensitive or stressful circumstances.
- Strong organization and follow-through, including the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Comfort working in a hybrid or remote arrangement while maintaining communication, productivity, and availability for required in-person obligations.
The position offers a base salary and a production-based compensation structure. Expected annual earnings for an attorney handling family law and litigation matters are approximately $100,000–$125,000, depending on experience, workload, and production.
The base salary, revenue calculation, and how the compensation components work together will be discussed during the interview process.
