Role

Description:

The Litigation Associate will work as part of a collaborative team handling civil litigation matters from inception through resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include legal research and analysis, drafting pleadings and motions, managing discovery, preparing and taking depositions, and assisting with trial preparation and appearances in court. The associate will communicate with clients and insurers, evaluate case strategy and risk, and contribute to settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution when appropriate.

This is a full-time hybrid role based in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area, with a balance of in-office work and some work from home. The position offers the opportunity to develop litigation skills in a mentoring environment while working on diverse and complex cases.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Law, including civil litigation and familiarity with insurance defense, tort, employment, or specialty liability matters.
• Demonstrated ability to draft and argue Motions, including dispositive and procedural motions in state and/or federal courts.
• Proficient in Legal Research, case analysis, and applying statutes, regulations, and case law to complex fact patterns.
• Experience or training in conducting Depositions, including preparing outlines, examining witnesses, and evaluating testimony.
• Comfortable practicing in various Courts, with experience in court procedures, rules of evidence, and trial or hearing preparation.
• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; admission in Oregon (or ability to obtain promptly) required.
• Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities.
• Ability to manage a litigation docket, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and within a team.
• Professional judgment, integrity, and a client-focused approach to case management and communication.
• Prior litigation experience, clerkship, or related practical training is preferred but not strictly required for highly qualified candidates.
