Commercial Litigation Attorney

Our client, a distinguished law firm with a strong reputation for excellence, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Litigation Attorney to join their team. This is a fully remote position, allowing legal professionals across South Africa to apply and contribute to complex litigation matters. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in handling a diverse range of commercial disputes, from inception through to resolution, including trials and appeals.

You will be responsible for managing case files, conducting thorough legal research, drafting pleadings, and representing clients in court and alternative dispute resolution forums. This role demands exceptional analytical abilities, persuasive advocacy skills, and the capacity to thrive in a demanding, client-focused remote environment. You will be instrumental in achieving favorable outcomes for our clients.

• Manage a caseload of commercial litigation matters, ensuring timely and effective progression.
• Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis to develop case strategies.
• Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, and other court documents.
• Represent clients in all stages of litigation, including pre-trial, trial, and appellate proceedings.
• Conduct examinations of witnesses, experts, and opposing parties.
• Negotiate settlements and engage in alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediation and arbitration.
• Advise clients on legal risks and potential litigation outcomes.
• Supervise and mentor junior legal staff and legal support teams.
• Stay current with developments in commercial law and litigation procedures.

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent qualification.
• Admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa, with a current fidelity fund certificate.
• A minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience specifically in commercial litigation.
• Demonstrated success in handling complex commercial disputes, including trials.
• Extensive experience with legal research, drafting pleadings, and court procedures.
• Exceptional advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Strong organizational and case management abilities.
• Proven capacity to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote setting.
