National Grid is hiring a Procurement Programme Manager reporting to the Head of Programme Procurement to work alongside the SI business Unit responsible for delivering the commercial and procurement strategies for major projects and programmes of work. As a Procurement Programme Manager you will co‑ordinate across the procurement function including Category Managers, Supply Chain Risk teams, Strategic Supplier Leads, and the Market Supplier Development team to execute commercial strategies for the relevant major project or programme.

You will be responsible for co‑ordinating across the relevant Procurement teams to ensure they can provide Business Unit delivery, updates, insight and recommendations as required. Within the role you will oversee and be accountable for all procurement activities including developing innovative sourcing strategies, management of the end‑to‑end supply chain, developing procurement strategies, and building strong supplier relationships to secure supply and manage demand to deliver current and future needs.

The role is hybrid so you can enjoy working from home and our office based in Warwick and also will require travelling to our site in Birmingham.

What you’ll do
  • Collaborate with SI Onshore business partners, or directly with Business Unit counterparts, to understand workbook, identify scope of support required, and frontload preparation.
  • Collaborate and work closely with BU stakeholders, seek to understand their needs and challenges and develop solutions to deliver supply chain requirements in line project timelines, balancing cost, quality and delivery.
  • Build relationships with the supply chain partners and the n-tier Supply Chain to secure supply and manage demand, working with the supply chain to drive innovation, exploring new markets and technologies, and driving sustainability and social value.
  • Develop recommended procurement and supply chain strategies that will meet the BU priorities, whilst understanding the impact of any decision on the Group or supply chain availability.
  • Develop and recommend resourcing for programme/project teams balancing the need for internal vs external resourcing in line with policies.
  • Coordinate supply chain benchmarking efforts as input to initial project cost envelopes as well as the assurance of supply chain partner procurement plans.
  • Co‑define sourcing strategy with relevant category leads and, where necessary, leading the relevant and agreed sourcing activities.
  • Provide relevant inputs into programme/project sanctioning with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive successful programme/project execution – incl. supplier coordination, claims mgmt. etc.
  • Proactively assess, and mitigate procurement‑related risks (e.g., supply chain risks, cost escalations, project delivery risks) – regularly communicate to relevant stakeholders.
  • Continuously track the supply markets, keeping abreast of developments, trends, risks and opportunities, ensuring continual engagement with existing and potential new suppliers and preparing mitigations.
  • Build and maintain robust systems to ensure supply chain inventory levels are managed to reduce/remove product supply risks, identified through robust analysis, working closely with BU project teams.
  • Lead project lessons learnt to provide feedback to category teams, business partner and Business Unit to incorporate learnings into future projects.
