General Operative - Substations

Location:
Bramford, Ipswich
Due to continued growth within our Power Transmission & Distribution business, we are looking to recruit a General Operative – Substations to support the delivery of major electrical infrastructure projects at our Bramford site in Ipswich.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly skilled team working on nationally important projects that help connect communities and support the UK's transition to a low‑carbon future.
What You'll Be DoingAs a General Operative, you will support the efficient day‑to‑day operation of site stores, yards, materials management, and project logistics, ensuring our substations projects have the resources they need to be delivered safely and effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Assisting with the management of materials, plant, tools, equipment, consumables, and PPE.
- Supporting the coordination of plant and stock while ensuring accurate administration and stock control procedures are followed.
- Liaising with operational teams to ensure site materials are available when required.
- Loading and unloading delivery vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Checking deliveries for quality, quantity, and damage.
- Supporting the hire, acceptance, and off‑hire of plant and equipment.
- Assisting with the calibration and management of tools and equipment.
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and tidy yard and storage area.
- Following all Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements and promoting a positive safety culture on site.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, customers, and stakeholders.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform well in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Previous experience working on construction or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of the power or utilities industry.
- Telehandler licence.
- Relevant substations or power industry authorisations.
- Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.
- Smart working, giving you more flexibility such as staggered start and finish times, with up to 40% remote working, where roles allow.
