Senior Buyer - Raw Materials

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Buyer specializing in Raw Materials to join their procurement division. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute to strategic sourcing from anywhere in South Africa. You will be responsible for managing the procurement of essential raw materials, developing supplier strategies, negotiating contracts, and ensuring supply chain continuity. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commodity markets, strong analytical skills, and a proven ability to drive cost savings while maintaining quality and delivery standards.

This role is critical for supporting the manufacturing operations and ensuring the consistent availability of key inputs.

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing plans for all raw material requirements, focusing on cost optimization and risk mitigation.
• Lead complex negotiations with domestic and international suppliers of raw materials, securing competitive pricing and favorable contractual terms.
• Monitor global commodity markets, identify trends, and forecast price fluctuations to inform purchasing decisions and hedging strategies.
• Manage supplier relationships, conduct regular performance reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the supply base.
• Collaborate closely with production, R&D, and quality assurance teams to ensure materials meet required specifications and delivery timelines.
• Oversee inventory levels of raw materials to ensure optimal stock availability while minimizing holding costs and preventing stock-outs.

• A Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in procurement, with a significant focus on raw material sourcing.
• Demonstrated expertise in negotiating large-scale contracts and managing supplier relationships in the raw materials sector.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret market data, forecasts, and cost models.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders in a remote setting.
