Head of Distribution and Logistics

About the Role Our client, a leading wine producer and distributor, is seeking an experienced Head of Distribution and Logistics to manage its operations in the Paarl, Western Cape region. This critical role involves overseeing the entire distribution network, warehousing, inventory management, and transportation to ensure efficient and timely delivery of products to various markets. The Head will be responsible for optimizing logistics operations, reducing costs, and implementing best practices to enhance customer satisfaction and operational performance.

• Develop and implement strategic plans for distribution and logistics operations within the Paarl, Western Cape region.
• Oversee all aspects of warehousing, inventory control, order fulfillment, and transportation management.
• Manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and other supply chain partners.
• Optimize distribution routes and methods to improve efficiency and reduce delivery costs.
• Ensure accurate and timely inventory management, minimizing stockouts and overstock situations.
• Implement and maintain robust safety and security protocols within warehouses and distribution centers.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of logistics and warehouse staff.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for logistics operations and implement corrective actions.
• Manage departmental budgets and control operational expenses effectively.
• Collaborate with sales, production, and procurement teams to ensure seamless supply chain flow.

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in distribution and logistics management.
• Proven track record of managing complex distribution networks and optimizing logistics operations.
• Strong understanding of inventory management, warehouse operations, and transportation planning.
• Demonstrated experience in cost reduction and efficiency improvement initiatives.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
• Proficiency in logistics software and ERP systems.
• Knowledge of the wine or beverage industry in the Paarl, Western Cape region is a significant advantage.
