Position OverviewThe Safety Manager will manage the Kiewit Offshore Services (KOS) Health, Safety and Environmental programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work. The successful individual must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision. This position requires someone with the ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding KOS' policies, procedures and software programs.

Kiewit Offshore Services, a district (or business unit) of Kiewit Corporation that builds structurally complex jackets and topsides for offshore oil drilling rigs, is located in Ingleside, TX, 20 minutes outside of Corpus Christi. The 550‑acre fabrication yard hosts about 300 staff employees and 1,400 craft employees who work year‑round. Projects built by Kiewit Offshore Services require significant equipment planning, detailed cost estimates and schedules, and a commitment to safety by all employees.
LocationThis position will be based at Kiewit's Offshore Services (KOS) yard in Ingleside, TX.
Responsibilities- Communicate between KOS and client management regarding safety matters.
- Develop complete understanding of contract plans and specifications.
- Oversee incident investigations reporting and follow through with corrective actions.
- Work closely with the facility safety manager to develop and implement leading indicator action plans.
- Manage and lead a team of 3‑7 safety coordinators and technicians.
- Interact with demanding clients and maintain positive relationships with the client team.
- Routinely inspect the facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Monitor the workforce for unsafe behaviors and coach employees on correct behaviors when observed.
- Write, organize and implement jobsite safety plans.
- Perform daily reviews and inspection of the jobsite to assure compliance with federal, provincial, client and KOS policies.
- Coordinate and present safety training to support KOS and client requirements, including planning, documentation, and presentation (e.g., new hire orientation, fall protection, confined space, lockout/tagout).
- Attend the weekly general safety meeting, weekly supervisor safety meeting, and daily tool‑box meetings as required.
- Coordinate with the home office Safety Department on overall program, project training needs, injury management, citation management, OH&S reporting requirements, and other application matters.
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial or equivalent degree/work experience.
- At minimum 5+ years of experience managing a safety team for large oil and gas construction projects.
- Strong work ethic; good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to act independently with little or no supervision and work collaboratively on a team environment.
- Knowledge of standard personal computer use and office software.
- Ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide-ranging weather conditions and terrain.
- Knowledge of construction safety, current Federal and OSHA requirements, hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management skills preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
- May work at various different locations and conditions may vary.
