Overview

The Department of Ecology is hiring a Regulatory & Information Support Section Manager (WMS Band
2)
within the Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program (HWTR).

Location: Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station.

Schedule: This position will have flexibility of a hybrid schedule, empowering work from home and office, with up to a 60% telework schedule. Schedules are dependent upon position needs and are subject to change. Responsibilities
  • The Regulatory & Information Support (R&I) Section supports the program by coordinating the state s annual Dangerous Waste Reporting program, collecting hazardous waste generation fees, planning and implementing IT services for the program, communicating key program messages, and developing and maintaining program web content and publications.
  • This position will provide support and leadership to the R&I Section to ensure:
    • Staff are committed to a unified vision and understand their roles and those of related teams in achieving outcomes.
    • Staff apply applicable frameworks, methodologies, tools, policies, standards, data, and best practices to achieve measurable outcomes.
    • Work is prioritized to optimize resources in support of defined outcomes.
    • Data analysis yields insights for program decision-making, identifies pain points, and informs process improvements.
    • Process improvement efforts align with program goals.
    • IT projects are strategically scoped, planned, developed, and maintained to meet evolving program and agency needs, using project management methodologies to deliver on schedule.
    • Program communications are integrated into a coordinated strategy that prioritizes key messages and customer‑focused delivery.
    • Business operations conform to agency policies and applicable laws.
    • Products and services are continuously assessed and improved.
    • Section records are managed according to retention schedules and guidelines.
    • Staff treat clients and the public as partners and collaborators, maintaining satisfaction with program services.
Required Qualifications

A combined total of 9 years of experience and/or education

Education: Major study in an environmental, physical, or natural science, engineering, planning, business or public administration, or closely allied field.

Experience: Environmental analysis, planning, or community outreach AND three years of supervisory experience (may be gained at the same time as the experience above).

Examples of how to qualify:

  • 9 years of experience.
  • 8 years of experience AND 30-59 semester or 45-89 quarter college credits.
  • 7 years of experience AND 60-89 semester or 90-134 quarter college credits (Associate’s degree).
  • 6 years of experience AND 90-119 semester or 135-179 quarter college credits.
  • 5 years of experience AND a Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 years of experience AND a Master’s degree.
  • 2 years of experience AND a Ph.D.
