Apply for the ATSU Director of Research & Grants Administration role at Inside Higher Ed. ATSU is seeking a full‑time, exempt Director to lead research and grant administration across its campuses in Kirksville, Missouri, and Mesa, Arizona, with remote work considered.

Description

As deputy administrator to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Director oversees the RGSI division, manages cross‑functioning departments of Sponsored Programs, Research Support, and the A.T. Still Research Institute, and facilitates research readiness university‑wide.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as division deputy administrator and senior member of the RGSI leadership team.
  • Lead the administrative core and team to advance R&G and R&D efforts.
  • Supervise division personnel responsible for data integrity, institutional review board compliance, and central administrative functions.
  • Oversee fiscal and budgeting matters throughout the Division.
  • Analyze and complete R&G reports and surveys for internal and national R&D surveys.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and develop the annual RGSI metric sheets and dashboards.
  • Provide required reports to the Federal Office of Research Integrity and the Federal‑wide Assurance office.
  • Update and upgrade division‑level policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Respond to incoming Federal notices and serve as a responder.
  • Lead division‑wide strategic planning, evaluation, and tracking activities.
  • Develop university‑wide compliance policies for research reinvestment, intellectual property, technology transfer, misconduct in science, IRB fees, research participant compensation, FCOI, export controls, etc.
  • Oversee and manage IP and pre‑ and post‑patent activity.
  • Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration with the CFO, Finance Office, Purchasing, University officials, C&M, and others.
Other Functions
  • Problem‑solve and respond to research and grant administration special projects (internal and external).
  • Serve on university research and related community‑based committees.
  • Complete mandated NIH Human Subjects and Financial Conflict of Interest training and all required employee‑training programs.
  • Participate and represent ATSU in professional research and scholarly societies (e.g., NCURA, SRA, NGMA, FDP, etc.).
  • Perform other relevant leadership and problem‑solving duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related research field.
  • Demonstrated and proven track record of successfully managing R&G administrative, accounting, compliance, regulatory systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in research and grants administration and/or related research program management/oversight, preferably within a university setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in operations leadership/management.
  • 5+ years of experience in research and grants data mining and analytics.
Skills
  • Outstanding research and grants administration knowledge and budgeting skills, along with strong research contract development and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills that maximize research output and clinical trial opportunities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills and human capital/systems management skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access) and other relevant software/platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google products, R&G Artificial Intelligence, and other digital platforms.
