Active Community Development Officer (Penzance)

Join Cornwall Council in this exciting new role, forming a pivotal part of Active Cornwall’s place focused team to drive the Sport England funded Place Partnership programme in Penzance.

About the Role

As the Penzance Active Community Development Officer you’ll be a key member of a wider multidisciplinary place‑focused team. You’ll work closely with the Active Cornwall Place Partnership Manager, the wider Active Cornwall team, local partners, communities, commissioned experts and decision‑makers to deliver the outcomes of the initial development phase of the Place Partnership work aimed at preparing the ground for future investment.

You will act as the ‘glue and compass’, ensuring all work streams remain focused on the needs of communities.

Working Pattern

This is a full‑time (37 hours) fixed‑term role initially until 31 March 2027, with the potential to extend beyond that subject to future successful funding extension. It is a hybrid role with a mix of office, outreach and home working, requiring a minimum of 2 days a week on site in Penzance.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

Working in systems change is complex and relational. You will need to be comfortable dealing with complexity, manage inter‑related moving parts, and lead change in environments where you do not hold the cards. You must believe in the power of people, possess great interpersonal skills, build relationships, and be willing to challenge the status‑quo. You should act as a convenor, connector and enabler while remaining compassionate, empathetic and values‑driven with equity at the heart of your approach.

Understanding life on a low household income and the local context of Penzance is an advantage.

What You’ll Get In Return
