Join the Texas Veterans Commission as a Rural Veterans Career Advisor who provides case management, employment, training, and placement services to veterans—especially disabled veterans—through intensive support and outreach to employers.
General DescriptionServes as a vital member of the Veterans Employment Services team. Provides case‑management, employment, training, and placement services to veterans with an emphasis on intensive support and outreach, while following a telework policy that may allow remote work based on performance and is not guaranteed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive assessments of training needs, education, skills, interests, and other relevant data to deliver appropriate services and help veterans overcome employment barriers.
- Develop, document, and maintain case‑management records using the online system.
- Counsel and encourage veterans throughout the reemployment process.
- Outreach to veterans, community organizations, employers, labor unions, veterans service organizations, and other providers to promote employment goals.
- Recommend and refer veterans for employment opportunities based on qualifications and employer requirements.
- Lead and participate in workshops on job‑search skills such as resume writing, interviewing, and related topics.
- Conduct outreach to employers and workforce partners to coordinate employment opportunities for veterans.
- Review and analyze veteran qualifications to ensure they meet employer requirements.
- Make presentations to groups when needed.
- Enter and retrieve information from computer systems (e.g., , Salesforce, etc.).
- Perform related work as assigned.
- Minimum Education: Associate’s degree in social work, social sciences, business, human resources, or a related field; college transcripts required.
- Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of interviewing, assessment, job placement, retention, and counseling work with veterans or other eligible job seekers.
- Applicant must be a veteran with active‑duty service >180 days and honorable discharge or a service‑connected disability discharge.
- Valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire.
- DD‑214 (member 1 not acceptable), NA Form 13038, or VA Summary Benefits Letter required.
- Experience managing multiple priorities while delivering exceptional service.
- Experience with case‑management principles, standards, and methods.
- Experience in case guidelines, regulations, and policies.
- Experience providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Experience with public relations and communication skills.
- Preferred:
Two years of experience operating computers and applicable software. - Preferred:
Knowledge of community resources, military occupations, counseling techniques, and career planning.
- Ability to assess veteran needs and coordinate services.
- Ability to organize, monitor, document, and follow‑up with case‑managed clients.
- Professional image presentation and confidentiality.
- Proficient in English for correspondence, case narratives, and counseling.
- Knowledge of community resources, supportive services, military occupations, and transferable skills.
Other than 8‑5 may be required. Normal office environment; may involve walking, standing, lifting up to 30 lb, extensive telephone usage, and repetitive computer work.
