A Little More About Your Role… WSP’s Roads Northwest business unit is seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Project Manager to support the delivery of complex, high‑profile infrastructure and public realm projects across the region. You will play an integral role in managing multi‑disciplinary projects under the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (NH SDF), as well as contributing to the successful delivery of major local authority programmes and public realm regeneration schemes.
This position offers an excellent opportunity for an emerging project management professional to build leadership experience, work on nationally significant projects, and progress toward a full Project Manager role within one of the UK’s leading consultancies.
- Promote a strong culture of health, safety, quality, and sustainability, aligning with WSP’s guiding principles.
- Support the Project Director, Project Manager and, where appropriate, take the lead on elements of multi‑disciplinary projects under the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (NH SDF) and other regional frameworks.
- Support the coordination with design, environmental, commercial, and construction specialists to ensure fully integrated project delivery.
- Support Project Managers in developing and maintaining project programmes, budgets, and financial forecasts.
- Support commercial and financial planning, cost control, and performance reporting.
- Contribute to the preparation and management of project documentation in line with WSP governance and client requirements.
- Manage and communicate with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain partners effectively.
- Support senior colleagues to ensure full compliance with NEC4 contract management processes.
- Support internal and external stakeholders that influence your projects.
- Working towards or recently achieved APM PMQ, PFQ, and/or MAPM accreditation (or equivalent).
- Competent user of Microsoft 365 and MS Project; experience with Primavera P6 is desirable. Proficient in the use of a suite of AI tools including MS Copilot.
- Experience supporting or delivering multi‑disciplinary infrastructure and/or public realm schemes, ideally within a highways or transportation context.
- Demonstrated understanding of commercial and financial management within a project lifecycle environment.
- Working knowledge of NEC4 contracts and their practical application.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to engage confidently across project teams and stakeholders.
- An initiative‑taking mindset with the ability to think critically, adapt quickly, and drive continuous improvement.
