What You'll Do
As a Manager in Group Life and Disability Claims, you will lead a team of Disability Claim Analysts to acquire, service, grow and retain profitable business through effective talent management, operational planning, improvement in execution, workflow, metrics, business literacy and financial accountabilities. You will consult on the most sophisticated claims, offering guidance on claim activity, strategy and approach. You will interface and coordinate with other departments including underwriting, administration and legal, providing information and expertise.
Here is how you will spend your day:
- Assist in developing the strategic plan for the team. Develop and implement the operational plan and measures ensuring it meets organizational objectives.
- Assign claims, monitor caseloads for approximately 10-15 employees (both exempt and non-exempt) and resolve claims that are escalated to ensure they are handled promptly.
- Facilitate continuous operational improvement through identification, action planning and execution. Ensure accurate metrics are in place.
- Lead and direct staff, including hiring, training, talent management, compensation administration, rewards and recognition, performance management, coaching and mentoring.
- Will work with other managers in the department to align to strategic goals
- Monitor and communicate business developments, ensuring operations are in line with changes needed to serve customers and remain competitive.
- Serve as a change agent to move the business forward.
- May serve as a supplier manager for products of the team or division.
- Participate on committees and task groups responsible for improving business practices, lowering expenses, increase customer acquisition and/or retention, handle and price products and services.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- 6+ years of related experience.
- 3+ years of informal or formal leadership experience.
- Strong product knowledge, business knowledge, excellent human relations and decision-making skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, planning and organizational, problem solving, analytical, presentation, and listening skills.
- A high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft, Excel, and Outlook.
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)$81900 - $147600 / year
Time Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work EnvironmentThis role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Raleigh, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
