Position Summary:The Utilities Manager oversees the execution of strategies to optimize utility usage and costs across the portfolio. This role works closely with the VP of Revenue and leads day‑to‑day operations of the utility analyst team. The Manager will assist in driving initiatives related to energy management, sustainability, utility billing, and vendor coordination to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of utility systems, regulatory requirements, and data analysis, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence.
The Manager plays a key role in developing talent, promoting ownership, and creating an environment where individuals are empowered to contribute meaningfully to shared success.
Utility Operations & Support
- Assist in implementing utility management initiatives across the portfolio.
- Monitor utility consumption and costs; identify and elevate anomalies or savings opportunities.
- Support the utility billing process and ensure data accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in accommodating requests, as needed, related to tracking and reporting on sustainability metrics related to utilities.
- Promote best practices in energy and water conservation.
- Maintain relationships with utility providers and third‑party vendors.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with utility regulations across jurisdictions.
- Support contract management and vendor performance tracking.
- Use utility management platforms to track performance and generate reports.
- Maintain dashboards and assist in preparing presentations for leadership.
- Contribute to smart building and system integration efforts as needed.
- Work closely with Field and Home Office teams to support utility‑related goals.
- Provide training and guidance to onsite teams on utility processes and tools.
- Assist in utility‑related budgeting and forecasting.
- Supervise and support utility analysts or coordinators, setting clear expectations, providing coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to ensure alignment with company values and goals.
- Delegate tasks effectively and ensure timely execution of utility‑related projects.
- Foster a high‑performing team culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, and results.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, or related field is preferred.
- 3‑5 years of experience in utility related, multifamily or business management operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with energy markets, sustainability practices, and utility billing systems.
- Proficiency in Excel and utility data platforms.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
