Westminster City Hall, 4800 W. 92nd Avenue. 100% in‑office onboarding required; subsequent remote work may be authorized on a 50% basis with approval.

Work Schedule
:
Monday‑Thursday 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.;
Tuesday‑Friday 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; or Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Schedule may vary based on operational needs.

Overview
:
The Sales Tax Audit Supervisor leads the city’s sales tax audit team, ensuring compliance with municipal tax laws, supervising professional audit staff, and coordinating audit activities. The role requires deep knowledge of municipal tax statutes, accounting principles, and supervisory skills.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of professional Sales Tax Auditors.
  • Provide technical training, instruction, and assistance on complex audit assignments.
  • Develop, modify, and assign audit work plans; determine priorities for the audit team.
  • Read, approve, and edit audit reports for accuracy and compliance with city policies.
  • Interpret legal provisions, respond to taxpayer inquiries, and coordinate with the city’s legal counsel.
  • Evaluate audit practices for efficiency, propose procedural changes, and implement improvements.
  • Perform routine audits of businesses engaged in city commerce.
  • Draft and update city tax guides, rules, and regulations.
  • Represent the city at professional and public organizations and conduct public tax seminars.
  • Assist with collection activities, including summons issuance, court representation, and distraint coordination.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and stakeholders to identify and implement tax software updates.
  • Support the Sales Tax Manager on monthly and year‑end close activities, performance appraisals, and department reporting.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance and support additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Accounting or a related accredited four‑year college or university program.
  • Three (3) years of professional sales and use tax auditing experience in local or state government.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and sales/use tax.
  • Knowledge of Colorado’s home‑rule tax system, municipal revenue laws, and procedures.
  • Proficient in office technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Experience managing professional audit staff (preferred).
  • Experience with Gen Tax (preferred).
  • Master’s degree in Finance or related field (preferred).
Physical & Working Conditions
  • Sedentary office work with occasional walking, standing, squatting, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Work performed in indoor settings with potential travel to audit sites and occasional out‑of‑state travel.
  • Exposure to high‑stress situations such as court appearances and investigative audits.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
  • Background checks including employment references, criminal history, and driver’s license record.
  • Drug screening.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
