Position: Placemaking & Events Manager Downtown Frederick Partnership

Status: Full Time

Salary Range: $60,000 – $85,000

Benefits: Employees are covered for 100% of health, dental and vision insurance and long-term and short-term disability; 3% match towards retirement; remote work up to 2 days per week following initial six month employment period; vacation, sick and federal holidays

Location: Downtown Frederick, MD

Reports to: Executive Director

Strategic Alignment: Champions the creation of people-focused public spaces that reflect Downtown Frederick’s unique character. Leads placemaking initiatives including beautification and seasonal enhancements. Oversees signature events as tools to strengthen downtown’s sense of place, attract visitors, and support local businesses, ensuring events serve the broader placemaking strategy rather than functioning as stand-alone activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manages public art projects and beautification initiatives to ensure downtown remains welcoming, visually compelling, and economically vibrant
  • Manages holiday lights implementation and season-long holiday placemaking activities
  • Coordinates event planning for Alive @ Five, Fall Fest, Frederick at Night, Artopia, Love Local tour, Frosty Friday, Fire in Ice and other downtown-wide events
  • Owns event volunteer recruitment, coordination, and support systems
  • Supervises part-time event contractors
  • Works closely with all Partnership staff to achieve strategic goals and deliver high-quality results
  • Builds strong relationships with business owners, city officials, and nonprofit partners
  • Performs other duties as needed to strengthen Downtown Frederick’s sense of place
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in project management, event management, or related field
  • 3+ years experience in project management and/or event coordination
  • Strong organizational and timeline management skills
  • Event management experience with revenue targets
  • Experience managing contractors or freelancers
  • Budget management skills
  • Main Street experience is a plus
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point
