Job Overview
Assistant Manager (Associate People Manager) – Tax team, covering London, Gatwick, Cambridge and Milton Keynes. Minimum 3 days per week in office, with flexible/hybrid/home working options.
Responsibilities- Provide support and challenge to Associates, enabling them to reach their potential.
- Conduct regular conversations with Associates about workload, pressures, wellbeing and feedback.
- Proactively manage performance, including goal setting and performance reviews; address issues such as exam failures, underperformance, absence, wellbeing concerns and escalation when needed.
- Handle administrative tasks: monitoring performance feedback, preparing data, contributing to talent meetings.
- Lead the local orientation for Associates, delivering a high‑quality introduction to the firm.
- Collaborate with other Associate People Managers to ensure a consistent people experience.
- Promote diversity through everyday inclusion practices.
- Work collaboratively with teams such as Professional Qualifications, People Advisory, Learning Innovation and Tax People Leads.
- Participate in the people manager community, attend local management meetings and use management information for decision making.
- Engage in people projects and expand knowledge in areas such as commercial awareness.
- Experience in mentoring, coaching, and direct line management.
- Experience supporting and challenging others to help them reach their full potential.
- Confidence in using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Passion for creating the best possible experience for Associates.
- Experience supporting office or firm‑wide projects or initiatives.
- Background in wellbeing and support.
- Knowledge of Tax/accountancy profession training pathways.
- Stakeholder and project management skills.
- Ability to collaborate with a range of teams.
