Health and Safety professional (12‑month fixed term or secondment)
This is a fantastic chance to broaden your experience across a large and diverse organisation, with exposure to a wide range of service areas including Education, Lifelong Learning, Social Services and frontline operational services.
In this varied corporate role, you’ll work in partnership with managers and employees to support proportionate risk management and help strengthen a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture.
What you will be doingYou’ll provide professional advice, guidance and support across a range of service areas, ensuring practical and effective health and safety management.
- Providing information, advice and guidance on health and safety matters
- Carrying out health and safety audits, inspections and safety tours
- Investigating workplace accidents, incidents and near misses
- Advising on risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Preparing and presenting health and safety reports to meetings and committees
- Working collaboratively with managers, stakeholders and trade unions
While you may focus on specific areas such as Education, Lifelong Learning, Social Services, you will also contribute to work across other Directorates — offering excellent variety and exposure.
About youWe’re looking for someone who is proactive, approachable and keen to make a real difference.
- A NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) or be actively nearing completion of this qualification.
- Experience working as a Health and Safety practitioner within a complex or multi‑disciplinary organisation
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and effective safety management practices
- Experience of conducting audits, inspections and incident investigations
- The ability to provide clear, practical advice to managers and employees
- Confidence presenting information at meetings, committees or forums
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using standard IT systems (e.g. Microsoft applications)
