Overview

Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Observatory Quarter, Woodstock Road, Oxford. Applications are invited for a Deputy Grants Manager to work with a team within the grants function. The successful applicant will hold a key role in the administrative structure of the department, supporting the preparation and costing of research grant applications, coordinating award set‑up for successful applications, and managing post‑award processes in accordance with sponsor and University requirements.

Responsibilities

Line‑management responsibility for a small team, alongside directly managing a portfolio of research groups. Act as an expert business partner providing professional and flexible financial management to research groups to support the achievement of the department’s strategic objectives. Contribute to the planning and policy development in relation to grants management and research capacity building within the department, and to the wider management of the department through the development and implementation of departmental policies, tools and procedures.

Work alongside the Grants Manager, developing and embedding high‑quality services to ensure that PIs and research leads receive the highest standards of professional support throughout the award lifecycle.

Qualifications

Analytical thinker who enjoys hands‑on involvement in operational matters. Significant experience of research grants administration. Strong numeracy skills, highly organised with the ability to prioritise and re‑prioritise tasks for yourself and others based on changing demands. Excellent interpersonal skills, comfortable communicating with colleagues and staff at all levels and able to play a leading role within a team whose services are in constant demand.

Benefits

Salary £39,424 – £47,779 per annum with a discretionary range up to £51,983 per annum (pro‑rata). Opportunity for occasional remote working and the ability to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
