National Trust wants everyone to have great access to nature, beauty, and history. The Access & Urban Team are developing new ways to end unequal access to nature in cities and towns, working in partnership with others, as part of our strategy People and Nature Thriving.

National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge is a national campaign, support package, and competition, which aims to address unequal access to nature, and inspire people to connect to nature, by encouraging people in flats to create ‘sky gardens’, connect with other sky gardeners, and share their stories.

We are excited to offer the opportunity of a Project Manager role to manage the delivery of National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge in 2027 and 2028.

For the right candidate, this is a great chance to take a leading role in delivering a high-profile project at the forefront of National Trust’s nature-based urban programming.

You’ll be part of the Access & Urban Team: a national team leading on ending unequal access to nature.

As one of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll be working in a matrix way with internal specialists, regional project teams, external partners, and contractors to make great things happen.

Your contractual place of work will be Heelis, but we will consider applications to work from any of our offices. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview.

You’ll lead overall programme coordination, covering governance, planning, risk and budget management, stakeholder engagement, and reporting requirements. You’ll bring together and support national and regional teams, acting as a key point of contact for regional coordinators and partners. You’ll also oversee the delivery of national campaign communications, ensuring engaging, high-quality materials and resources. Alongside this, you’ll manage enquiries, data systems, and the infrastructure for sign‑ups and competition entries, maintaining compliance with data protection, competition law, and health and safety requirements.

Finally, you’ll monitor performance, commission evaluation, and drive continuous improvement to support the development of the National Trust’s Sky Gardening Challenge as an inclusive urban initiative.

• Able to demonstrate a good understanding of project management life cycles, processes and practices, including governance requirements.
• Able to manage budgets and control costs
• A confident communicator, good at working with a wide range of people both internally and externally collaboratively, across a matrix team
• Adept at managing your time, costs and quality with a busy and varied workload, with some experience of managing small projects.
• A champion of inclusion, who helps support everyone to feel welcome.
• Experienced with funding, procuring, contracting and financial processes
• Focused on giving a great service to your clients, using your skills to understand, influence, negotiate and find solutions
• Understanding of the challenges and opportunities in inequitable access to green space for underserved communities, coupled with a genuine passion for social inclusion.
