The Camanachd Association is the international governing body for shinty, Scotland's community sport and is headquartered in Inverness, Scotland. It works closely with member clubs to grow a game that is accessible and enjoyable for participants of all ages and abilities, both on and off the field. The Association supports the development of players, volunteers, officials, and communities through structured programs and partnerships.
Across its history, the organization has maintained a clear purpose: to foster, encourage, promote, and develop shinty. Candidates joining the Association will contribute directly to the long-term sustainability and visibility of this distinctive Scottish sport.
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the Camanachd Association. The CEO will oversee day-to-day management of finances, operations, and governance, ensuring that resources are aligned with the Association's mission to grow and promote shinty. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing strategic plans, leading staff and volunteers, managing stakeholder relationships, and reporting to the Board on performance and risk.
The role involves building partnerships with clubs, sponsors, local authorities, and national bodies, as well as representing the Association in public, media, and sector forums. The CEO will also drive revenue generation, organisational development, and continuous improvement in programs that support participation and excellence in shinty.
Flexible and hybrid working arrangements will be considered to support the successful candidate. Given the nature of the role, the successful candidate will be expected to work flexibly, including regular evening and weekend commitments in support of Board meetings, competitions, events and stakeholder engagement. Qualifications
- Strong financial management skills, including Finance oversight and budget control.
- Demonstrated experience in Operations Management and organizational leadership.
- Proven ability in Business Planning and Strategic Planning within a membership or sports organization, or similar context.
- Experience in Sales, sponsorship, or income generation, with the ability to build and maintain partnerships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Background in managing boards, governance frameworks, or regulatory compliance.
- Ability to lead and develop teams, foster a collaborative culture, and manage change effectively.
- Knowledge of, or strong interest in, community sport; understanding of shinty or Scottish sports culture is an advantage.
