Priority Candidates will be considered in the first instance

Wigan Town Hall

37 hours per week

We're on a journey to build a workforce reflective of our Borough.

We are committed to fostering diverse teams where everybody can bring their authentic selves to work and feel that they belong. If you want to work for a Council where everybody is encouraged to meet their full potential and make a difference in our neighbourhoods, we would love to hear from you!

Your role:

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of compliance across Wigan Council's housing stock and corporate estate. You will lead statutory compliance programmes, including gas, electrical, asbestos and legionella management, ensuring our homes and building remain safe, compliant and well-maintained. Working closely with senior leaders, contractors and stakeholders, you will drive service excellence through robust governance, performance management and data-led decision making.

This is a high-profile leadership opportunity to influence strategy, champion continuous improvement, manage risk effectively, and ensure we meet our responsibilities as a trusted landlord.

About you:

Are you a confident leader with a passion for keeping people safe and services performing at their very best? We are looking for a strategic and inspiring professional with extensive experience in compliance, facilities management, housing, construction, or property services. You will bring strong technical knowledge of statutory compliance, excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and the ability to lead high-performing teams through change.

Most importantly, you will share our values, embracing Team Wigan behaviours and helping us deliver our Progress with Unity vision. You thrive on solving complex challenges, driving improvement, and making a real difference for residents and communities.

About us:

Wigan is a borough with ambition, pride and a strong sense of community. Through our Progress with Unity approach, we are transforming services by working together with residents, partners and colleagues to create opportunities, improve outcomes and build thriving communities. At Team Wigan, we believe that how we work is just as important as what we achieve. We foster a supportive, inclusive culture where innovation, collaboration and personal development are encouraged.

Join us and become part of an organisation that is committed to making a positive difference every day, delivering excellent services while supporting the people and places that make Wigan special.

The Progress with Unity plan is a place movement for change for the next decade, bringing a new era for Wigan Borough. It draws on the strengths of our individual organisations, recognising that together we can achieve much more for our communities by delivering on our 2 place missions; create fair opportunities for all children, families, residents and businesses and make our towns and neighbourhoods flourish for those who live and work in them.

Here at Wigan, we are proud to support flexible working patterns, when the service can accommodate this. We also take a blended approach to where we work, depending on the work we do. This may include working from home, the office, or the community. We like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
