Job Description & How to Apply Below
Title:
Regional Estate Manager (Isle of Wight and Hampshire). Internally, this role is known as Estate Manager (Isle of Wight and Hampshire)
Location:
Isle of Wight, Hampshire, or one of the adjoining counties (Dorset, Surrey, Wiltshire, Berkshire or West Sussex) Salary: £49,820 / 36 / Permanent Job Type: Permanent Heritage is for everybody, and we are here for heritage. Heritage lives in places and people, memories and stories, artefacts and traditions. It can connect us all to the past, and to each other. It can make us happier, strengthen every community, and help shape society for the better.
Everybody should be able to enjoy the benefits it brings. That's why, as a charity, we care for over a million objects and hundreds of historic sites in every part of England, from international icons to local treasures. And it's why we open them up, share their stories and find new ways for everybody to enjoy, learn, play and create.
We are looking for a Regional Estate Manager Isle of Wight and Hampshire (internally this role is known as Estate Manager) to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent role, working 36 hours per week. The Estates Department is made up of four Regions with teams providing professional expertise to conserve and maintain a range of properties from country houses and ruined castles to hill forts and Roman temples.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of estates services across the Isle of Wight and Hampshire. You will need to be based in either Hampshire or on the Isle of Wight, or one of the adjoining counties (Dorset, Surrey, Wiltshire, Berkshire or West Sussex). This reflects the operational requirements of the role and the need for regular on-site presence across the portfolio.
You may be based at Osborne House or work from home; however, you will be expected to spend a proportionate amount of your time at key sites, including Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle, as well as other locations across the area as required. Regular travel to sites and offices will be required to support meetings, engage with colleagues and lead your team.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight portfolio combines major visitor attractions, scheduled monuments and complex historic assets, centred on Osborne House and including Carisbrooke Castle, Portchester Castle, Hurst Castle, Netley Abbey, Titchfield Abbey, Wolvesey Castle, The Grange at Northington and Yarmouth Castle. This is a practical estate leadership role across a distinctive coastal and island portfolio, requiring a strong conservation, compliance, and operational focus.
You will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for the care, maintenance and stewardship of nationally important historic sites. You will provide technical and operational leadership, manage maintenance, compliance, contractor and project activities, and ensure sites remain safe, compliant, well-maintained, and welcoming for visitors. We are looking for a confident estate management professional with experience of managing historic, property, facilities or operational estates.
You will bring strong technical and operational judgement, good knowledge of health and safety and compliance, and the ability to lead teams, manage contractors, balance competing priorities and work collaboratively with site, conservation and specialist colleagues. The Benefits
- Salary from £49,820, depending on skills, experience and location - 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, pro rata, rising to 28 days after 3 years
- Matched pension contributions up to 10% - Flexible hours
- The opportunity to progress your career within the heritage sector
- Apprenticeship opportunities
- Subscriptions to professional bodies
- Free access to all English Heritage sites for you and up to six friends and family members - 25% discount in our shops and cafes
