Building Control Team Manager

Reed is recruiting on behalf of the Council for a Building Control Team Manager. This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-performing and forward-thinking Building Control team, contributing to the development of a world-class city. The position is based on a flexible hybrid working model, requiring the ability to travel across Oxford and work from various office locations.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead the delivery of the Building Control function, ensuring compliance with Building Safety Regulator (BSR) requirements and statutory obligations.
  • Manage and develop a team of 5-6 direct reports, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Engage in strategic planning aligned with Council priorities and national regulatory expectations.
  • Oversee complex regulatory and policy implementations and manage the Building Control budget.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including developers, residents, and statutory bodies, ensuring high standards of customer service and regulatory compliance.
Required Skills &

Qualifications:
  • Must be registered as a Class 3 Building Inspector with the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Proven experience managing a multi-disciplinary or regulatory team in a technical environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Regulations, enforcement procedures, and technical guidance applicable to Building Control.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record in performance management and service planning.
  • Experience in managing risk and quality assurance in a regulated or complex technical environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively leading and interacting with a range of stakeholders.
