Hybrid, with flexibility to work from home. Occasional travel required for team and leadership meetings and other face-to-face activities as needed.
Salary Range: £56,500 - £62,500 – benefits and recognition

About the role

We're looking for an experienced and inspiring Senior Manager Volunteering Support to join our Volunteering Leadership Team. This is a key leadership role responsible for leading our Volunteering Support Team and ensuring Macmillan delivers an exceptional, safe and inclusive volunteering experience.

You’ll lead a centre of excellence for volunteering support, overseeing the end‑to‑end volunteer journey from attraction and recruitment through to onboarding, involvement, development, recognition and exit. Using insight, data and strong stakeholder relationships, you’ll help shape and deliver Macmillan’s volunteering strategy, ensuring volunteers are supported to make the greatest possible impact for people living with cancer.

Working collaboratively across the organisation, you’ll champion volunteering best practice, strengthen systems and processes, support volunteer growth, and ensure volunteering remains inclusive, compliant and aligned to organisational priorities.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead and develop the Volunteering Support Team, creating a high-performing and inclusive culture.
  • Oversee the volunteer journey, from recruitment and onboarding through to involvement, recognition and exit.
  • Drive volunteering best practice, providing expertise, guidance and support across Macmillan.
  • Lead on volunteering compliance, safeguarding, risk management and governance.
  • Use data, insight and stakeholder feedback to improve volunteer experiences and operational performance.
  • Build strong relationships across the organisation to deliver volunteering growth and strategic objectives.
About you
  • The skills and experience we are looking for in the role are:
  • Significant experience leading and developing teams within a volunteering, charity or customer‑focused environment.
  • Strong knowledge of volunteer management best practice, including compliance, safeguarding and governance.
  • Experience using data and insight to drive performance, inform decisions and improve services.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A collaborative leadership style and passion for delivering outstanding volunteer experiences.
