Aboutthe Role…
We currently have an exciting vacancy within our Revenues Recovery team to lead and shape the team to continue to achieve high levels of collection rates across our Council Tax, Housing Benefit Over payments, Adult Social Care charges and Accounts Receivable teams.
This is an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable local taxation professional who wants to join a high-performing team and continue to drive improvement within our Service.
You will report to the Revenues Manager and will be the main lead in referring cases to Legal Services for recovery in the courts, such as bankruptcy cases, insolvency county court judgements, charging orders etc. Liaising with and managing the Council’s Enforcement Agent contract in these areas is also a key task.
This will also be a fantastic chance to develop your presentation skills in a court setting as you will lead on Liability Order courts for Council Tax.
You will have responsibility, alongside the Revenues Manager, for developing recovery timetables and strategies that maximise income generation whilst appreciating the changing landscape of local taxation and the need to take a balanced approach.
You will ensure the workload of the team is managed effectively and that deadlines are met whilst monitoring key outcomes and performance as well as developing new working practices in line with service demands and developing automation.

About You…You must have at least 2 years previous experience of working in a Council Tax environment and be willing and able to manage a large team of staff. This role will mainly be dealing with the Recovery of Council Tax (post liability).
You will be IRRV qualified (Full/Tech/Apprenticeship) or have a willingness to obtain this qualification within 12 months, with up-to-date specialist knowledge including with proven experience of dealing with complex cases, including making discretionary decisions, and experience of delivering a difficult outcome to residents in a professional, sensitive but assertive manner.
You will deliver a professional service to our customers and will adhere to the Council’s policies and procedures. You will take ownership of certain tasks and will work to deliver on targets set whilst maintaining a high quality of work. You will also be required to take responsibility for decisions you make and offer advice to the team where needed.
The role is extremely fast-paced and as such you will need to be organised and able to deal with heavy workloads and work under pressure to ensure all tasks are covered whilst supporting and managing the Recovery teams. Excellent communication skills with both staff and customers are a key part of this role.
