About The Role
Balfour Beatty Rail are recruiting for a Head of Operations to control, manage and deliver the overall logistical plan for the business and work and/or assist the Alliance Director and the Snr Operations Director working alongside the Operations Directors East and West to manage and delivery the logistical requirements of the project.
Provide management, leadership and control of a multi-disciplinary team from a logistical standpoint updating the AMT on delivery strategy at periodic meetings.
Meet with the wider Balfour Beatty Business to allow a steadier work bank reducing peaks and troughs to maximise delivery opportunities.
Be the initial point of contact for all work entering the Alliance to allow for a controlled entry assessment and depot deployment.
To update Regional Customers and internal stakeholders on all logistical issues.
Periodic meetings with the Client to maximise work winning opportunities.
Be responsible for updates on the KRA scorecard and highlight opportunities to maximise score.
What you'll be doingBelow are some of the duties of the role
- Overall responsibility for the logistical requirements of the project and to lead by example
- Managing the overarching logistics reducing underutilisation and peak work times.
- Work alongside the wider BB business reducing down time within the CRSA allowing staff to move across the business.
- Motivate team and manage performance, undertaking training/ coaching as appropriate
- Execute and monitor short term programmes to support the logistics plan
- Maintain all plans and deliver periodic updates to the AMT
- Attend and present at the AMT
- Attend meetings where required or in replacement of the Alliance Director and Snr
- Operations Director.
- Work with the Head of Operations to regularly review the project programme as it relates to site logistics to ensure completion on time
- Manage sub-contractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress,
- providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
- Carry out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan
- Support Accident / Incident Investigations.
- A successful track record in managing project logistical requirements within a construction, or construction related environment (Ideally Rail experience)
- Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately and experience in implementing systems improvements
- Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity; experienced at encouraging direct reports to do the same and managing a team to ensure tasks are carried out effectively and key messages cascaded
- Ability to work under pressure to deadlines, and a flexible attitude towards work in order to deal with a variable and demanding workload
- Excellent team player and team leader, able to work competently and independently without supervision
- Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on best available information; track record of solution orientated approach to resolve issues
- Strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills
- Team management experience
- Understands method statements and can coach others in document production
- Understands and can guide others in the principles of Accident / Incident Investigation
- Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation
- Proficient in the application of H&S Systems
This role requires the incumbent to be on call
